A tribute to linguist Lorenzo Dow Turner, whose life’s work exposed the secrets of the Gullah dialect which was hidden beneath several generations of slavery.
The Gullah/Geechee Seminole Maroon Reunion bus tour and mobile festival commemorates the legacy, language and land of Gullah peoples of the Sea Islands.
Recognizing the history of St. Augustine cannot be told in its entirety without its rich African heritage, this two-hour tour is designed to highlight over 400 years of African American history.
“The mission to create this tribute grew out of my work to publicize the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor,” said Sen. Hill.
“We are internationally recognized as a nation. Our homeland boundaries are from Jacksonville, North Carolina to Jacksonville, Florida off the coast of North America.”
