The NBTEE is partnering with The Beacon Program to bring its FAME (fashion, art, music & education) “edu-tainment” initiative to a Brooklyn middle school.
Administered by The Department of Youth and Community Development, The Beacon Program currently services after-school and summer pr.
FAME first involves classroom instruction as participating youth learn more about various aspects and occupations of fashion, art and music from industry professionals.
Showing off this newfound knowledge, participants will then take what they learn to the “stage” and produce their own powerful performances that combine elements of fashion, art and music (and other forms of self-expression such as spoken word and dance) to educate and excite audiences of peers, parents, relatives, friends and community supporters.
These performances will be held at The Beacon FAME Festival in Coney Island on June 26th, and then in other locations throughout NYC.
The FAME initiative is also being rolled out in a Detroit high school, and more FAME initiativ
es are planned in Baltimore, North Carolina and Atlanta, and as we launch new “Youth Movements” in these (and other) communities.
If you’d like to be a part of the FAME program in NYC or Detroit, or bring a FAME program to your community, call me at 734.395.3079.
The NBTEE is also helping The Alcoholism Council of New York plan, promote and host a series of town hall meetings, first in Brooklyn on March 25th, and then in other boroughs throughout NYC (see attached flyer).
If you’d like to be on the planning committee, provide resources at these events, or for more information, call Christine Fonseca at 212.252.7001, ext. 133.
