CNN’s Anderson Cooper aired an exclusive episode on CNN’s pilot study on how kids view race.
The four-part series reflects a modern rendition of the groundbreaking 1947 doll test results used to help make the case for desegregation in the landmark Supreme Court case, “Brown vs Board of Education”. In 1954, psychologists Kenneth Clark conducted the study, asking black children which dolls they preferred. The startling results revealed the vast majority of black kids choosing the “white” doll, expressing an open self-hatred and bizarre preference for whiteness. This study was further perpetuated in greater detail by psychologists Dr. Neely Fuller, who shed light on the origin of “white preference/bias” and its genocidal effect on the Black Psyche.
In tonight’s first installment, the episode briefly highlighted how the pilot study was conducted and why parents find it hard to talk to their kids about race. Despite what many find were “leading questions” throughout the interviews with carefully selected children, the responses uphold the more authenticated study conducted in 2007 by seventeen year old Carie Davis for her high school film class. The documentary was entitled “A Girl Like Me”.
