DJ Bigga Rankin, known for breaking artists and going hard for independents for over two decades, is celebrating his birthday this year in Jacksonville, Florida, with 4 major events. Also celebrating birthday’s along side Bigga Rankin for these events are: Ms. Dynasty, Paris, Fayi, and CeCe. Saw Money will be celebrating his WRNR Mixtape with Bigga Rankin, all week long as well. All events will include surprise performances, special invited guests as well as local and national media.

The first event that will kick off Bigga Rankin’s birthday week will be on Tuesday Aug. 3^rd at SkyLine in Jacksonville. This event will be a DJ Dinner, a DJ Meet and Greet as well as release parties for: Saw Money, Lil Hott and Papa Duck. Drink and food specials from the venue, will be offered to all in attendance.

Thursday Aug. 5^th at PLUSH is the official “All White Everything” party presented by The Hittmenn DJs and The Core DJs. The “All White Everything” event will be Hosted by Lyfe Jennings. (93.3FM/DJ G.Wiz on the 1’s and 2’s) Event will include a red carpet presented by Exclusive Access.

The official after party on Aug 5^th will be at Silver Fox celebrating Model Ms Dynasty aka “Queen of Duval” annual birthday event. This event will be hosted by Bigga Rankin.

Saturday Aug 7^th at PLUSH will be the official “Dickies & Chucks” birthday celebration hosted by:
Bigga Rankin, Kaspa (The Hittmenn DJ s), G-Wizz, Montana White, and Blok125. There will be 5 video shoots as well at this event.

Census: Number of black-owned businesses growing faster than any other group

(July 21, 2010) The number of minority-owned businesses increased by 45.6 percent to 5.8 million between 2002 and 2007, more than twice the national rate of all U.S. businesses, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition, the number of black-owned business increased by 60.5 percent during the same period. The total number of U.S. businesses increased between 2002 and 2007 by 18.0 percent to 27.1 million.

These new data come from the Preliminary Estimates of Business Ownership by Gender, Ethnicity, Race and Veteran Status: 2007, from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2007 Survey of Business Owners. The preliminary report released today is the first of 10 reports on the characteristics of minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses and their owners scheduled for release over the next year.

Increases in the number of minority-owned businesses ranged from 60.5 percent for black-owned businesses to 17.9 percent for American Indian- and Alaska Native-owned businesses. Hispanic-owned businesses increased by 43.6 percent.

U.S. Government Release $795 Million for Broadband in Poor Communities

The U.S. Departments of Commerce and Agriculture have released $795 million–augmented by some $200 million in private investments—to underwrite grants and loans for 66 projects nationwide aimed at extending broadband Internet access to businesses, healthcare facilities and schools in underserved communities.

The government said that the funding, the second round of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), is part of the overall $7.2 billion designated for broadband expansion nationwide, $4.7 billion of which comes through the Commerce Department and $2.5 billion from the Department of Agriculture.

“The Departments of Commerce and Agriculture will invest in 66 new projects across America that will finally bring reliable broadband Internet service to communities that currently have little or no access,” said President Obama, in announcing the funding.

We invite you to inform your networks that the Duval Urban Debate League is hosting a FREE two (2) week Summer Debate and Technology Institute for middle and high school students who attend public school in Duval County. National debate educators known as the Community Debate Council will assist with higher learning programs of instruction online and offline.

The camp will kick off on Monday, July 19th – Friday, August 2nd from 8:30am – 2:30pm at Paxon Middle School, located 3276 North E. Thagard Blvd. Free meals and debate materials will be provided.
